"There. All done." Jay stood up and brushed off his jeans. He surveyed the room and smiled; Rose was going to love it. Jay had put roses in vases on every table top in his house, all ranging from blood red to pearly white in a gradient. It had cost him quite a small fortune to get as many roses as he did, but he didn't mind. He'd do anything for Rose. Money didn't matter when it came to her. "What do you think, Bull?" He reached down and stroked Bulldozer's head, and in response he rolled over onto his back. "Do you think she'll love it?" Bulldozer barked happily, and Jay smiled. "Yeah, me too."
The timer on his stove rang out from the kitchen, and Jay straightened and walked quickly over to the kitchen and turned off the oven. He washed his hands, grabbed his oven mitts, and pulled the roast out, setting it quickly onto the prepared space on the counter. He'd have to move quickly if he was going to have a full meal ready for Rose when she arrived; it was already six and she was due to arrive at eight. He still needed to get ready himself and make the side dishes, plus setting the table and lighting candles. He had a lot of work ahead. Jay hadn't planned on the roses, nor had he expected them to take so long. Looking around, though, he decided that it had been a good idea to include them. Turning back to the stove, he pulled out a pot and grabbed the potatoes from the pantry. What better to go with a roast than mashed potatoes?
By the time he finished making dinner, the time was seven fifteen and he needed to get into the shower. It was quick, and he was out in ten minutes flat. He trimmed the edges of his scruff, just to keep it clean cut, and threw open his closet doors. What in the world was he going to wear? He hadn't told Rose what to wear, but based off of his dinner choices and the impromptu rose addition, he decided that he should dress a little fancier than his usual home-wear. Jeans were still acceptable, but he needed a nice jacket and casual dress shirt to make the outfit complete. He was a Peace Savers Counselor, after all; he needed to look the part, even when he was at home with private company.
By seven forty-five, Jay had figured out his outfit: a dark, fitted suit jacket and subdued red shirt with jeans and dress shoes. He headed back to the kitchen to set out candles, display the roast, and put the green beans and mashed potatoes into their own dishes for serving. By seven fifty-five, everything was ready; the roast had been displayed in the center of his table on a sparkling serving platter, the beans and potatoes were each set to one side of the roast, the tableware was set, and soft music played in the background. He had a feeling that tonight was going to be good.
